Frequently Asked Questions

Our practice does not participate directly with insurance plans. This is a thoughtful and intentional decision made to prioritize high-quality, individualized mental health care. We are happy to provide a detailed superbill upon request, which you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Over time, we have found that insurance requirements can create barriers to care. Many insurance plans require a formal diagnosis at the very first appointment in order to authorize payment. In our experience, mental health diagnoses are complex and best made over time, after developing a fuller understanding of a person’s history, symptoms, and goals. Requiring an immediate diagnosis can feel premature and may not accurately reflect an individual’s needs.

Insurance companies may also limit coverage for certain medications or treatments and, at times, dictate aspects of care that have already been thoughtfully decided between the provider and the patient. We believe treatment decisions should be based on clinical judgment and patient preference—not insurance mandates.

By operating as a self-pay practice, we are able to offer care that is more flexible, collaborative, and patient-centered, without external interference. This model allows greater privacy, transparency, and control over your treatment, while supporting a therapeutic process guided by what is clinically appropriate for you.

If you have questions about superbills or payment options, our office is happy to help.

A superbill is a detailed receipt for mental health services you’ve received. While our practice does not accept insurance directly, we are happy to provide a superbill upon request so you may submit it to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

A superbill typically includes important information your insurance company may require, such as the provider’s credentials, service dates, procedure codes, and diagnosis codes. Once you receive your superbill, you can send it to your insurance carrier according to their instructions. Reimbursement, if any, is determined by your individual insurance plan.

Please note that submitting a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement. Coverage, reimbursement rates, and eligibility vary widely between insurance plans, and any communication or payment from your insurance company will be handled directly between you and your insurer.

If you have questions about superbills or need assistance requesting one, our office is happy to help guide you through the process.

We understand that access to mental health care can be financially challenging for some individuals. For this reason, a limited number of sliding-scale fee options may be available on a case-by-case basis for clients who are unable to afford the full standard fees.

Sliding-scale arrangements are determined individually and are based on financial need, availability, and clinical appropriateness. Because availability is limited, we encourage patients to inquire about this option prior to scheduling or as early in the treatment process as possible.

If you believe a sliding-scale fee may be appropriate for your situation, please contact our office to discuss options confidentially.

Payment for services is required at the time services are rendered. All patients are required to keep a valid credit card on file with our office. The card on file will be charged following your appointment, unless other arrangements have been made in advance.

This policy helps us reduce administrative costs and allows us to focus our time and attention on providing high-quality, patient-centered care.

If you have questions about fees, payment methods, or billing, please contact our office prior to your appointment. We are happy to discuss payment policies to ensure clarity and transparency.

Medication management focuses on evaluating, prescribing, and adjusting psychiatric medications to help manage mental health symptoms. Appointments typically include discussing how medications are working, reviewing side effects, and making adjustments as needed.

Therapy focuses on exploring thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and life experiences in greater depth over time. Ongoing therapy often involves regular sessions and a more intensive therapeutic process.

Our clinic primarily provides medication management and, in some cases, brief, goal-focused therapy when clinically appropriate. For individuals who would benefit from more in-depth or ongoing therapy, we are happy to provide referrals to trusted therapists in the community to support comprehensive care.
